MANILA, Philippines — Malacañang on Wednesday announced that former Antique Mayor Jonathan Tan had been appointed head of the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA).
He was appointed on April 28, 2023, based on a copy of a letter sent to reporters.
“Pursuant to the provisions of existing laws, you are hereby appointed administrator and chairman, board of directors, Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority, for a term of six (6) years, vice Rolen C. Paulino,” said the document signed by President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.
Prior to the appointment, former Olongapo city mayor Rolen Paulino held the post.
Paulino, however, resigned on April 15, 2023 and did not complete his six year term.
“I shall adhere to the instruction from the Office of the President as an obedient soldier and dedicated public servant. I trust the good judgment of the President as he knows better,” said Paulino in his resignation letter.
The new SBMA head had previously expressed support for President Marcos during his vice presidential bid in 2016.
