Active COVID-19 cases in Quezon province hit 100-mark anew

LUCENA CITY — With the renewed spread of coronavirus in Quezon, the number of active COVID-19 cases in the province on Sunday breached the 100-mark again.
The latest data from the Integrated Provincial Health Office (IPHO) on Sunday, May 7, showed that Quezon has 10 new COVID-19 cases, bringing the number of active infections to 103.
At least 45 of the infected patients have been admitted to several hospitals, and four of them have been classified as “severe and critical.”
From only three active cases at the start of April, which further dropped to 1 on April 7, the number rose to 11 on April 18; 22 on April 23; 40 on April 26; and suddenly jumped to 81 on May 4.
The QPHO report did not provide further details about the active cases.
Records from the IPHO showed that 22 of 41 municipalities in the province have active virus carriers.
Lucena City, which has long been free from COVID-19 infection since March and only one active case on April 18, now topped the list with 20 active virus carriers.
This month, the IPHO has already recorded 111 new COVID-19 cases and one fatality. The data showed that the province logged 76 cases last month, 13 in March, 15 in February, and 92 in January.
The IPHO data showed that as of Wednesday, out of 2,220,184 total doses of vaccines that were administered, only 220,033 qualified residents had booster shots and additional doses.
The number of fully vaccinated individuals only covers 76.9 percent of the target population, the IPHO said.
Health authorities have intensified COVID-19 vaccinations amid the continued rise in infected residents.
The local and provincial health centers have been conducting daily vaccination drives in their respective localities.
