TAGUM CITY – Seventy two passengers were rescued after a motorized boat developed engine trouble while crossing the narrow waterway between Davao City and the Island Garden City of Samal (Igacos) on Sunday, the Philippine Coast Guard in Samal said.
The MB Penaplata I Â left Sasa wharf in Davao City for Samal Island when it encountered engine trouble at Pakiputan Strait.

The PGC Babak substation said it promptly dispatched a team, with the help of another vessel, the ML Kathrin 2.
The distressed boat was towed to Villarica wharf in Babak for repairs, the PCG said.
