BIR files raps vs software firm for tax evasion in connivance with bureau employee

The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) on Thursday filed before the Department of Justice (DOJ) criminal complaint against a software management company that reportedly manipulates sales machines to reduce actual sales and evade correct payment of taxes.

MANILA, Philippines — The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) on Thursday filed before the Department of Justice (DOJ) a criminal complaint against a software management company that reportedly manipulates sales machines to reduce actual sales and evade correct payment of taxes.

BIR Commissioner Romeo Lumagui Jr. led the filing of the complaint against the company, which he said is being managed by a BIR employee.

“It is unacceptable that our own employees are conspiring with tax evaders when they are the ones who should follow our plans and programs,” Lumagui said.

BIR said the initial revenue loss from the tampered sales machine was approximately P6.10 billion.

Lumagui said the BIR employee also faces an administrative case.

Lumagui encourages the public to come forward for any information against erring BIR officials and employees.

“I welcome all complaints against notorious BIR employees, particularly all those who have evidently failed to uphold the BIR’s etiquette of integrity and professionalism,” Lumagui said.
