10 alleged NPAs killed in Negros island — Army

The military says at least 10 alleged NPA rebels were killed by state security forces in Southern Luzon since January this year.

MANILA, Philippines — Ten alleged members of the New People’s Army were killed in separate encounters in Negros island over the weekend, the Philippine Army said on Monday.

On Saturday, five NPAs were killed, and seven firearms were recovered in three clashes between the members of the 62nd Infantry Battalion and the rebel guerillas in Barangay Quintin Remo, Negros Occidental.

Another encounter occurred in the same area on Sunday.

One was apprehended and while another one surrendered.

Authorities recovered seven firearms.

In another area in the island, members of the 15th Infantry Battalion fought with communist rebels on Sunday.

This resulted in the death of an NPA rebel.

A caliber 45 pistol was among the materials recovered from the battle.
