The House panel on education on Tuesday formed a technical working group to study the proposal of Pampanga Rep. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, a former president, to replace K-12 with a K+10+2 program, which would make it optional for students to take two more years of basic education preparatory to college after graduating from fourth year high school or grade 10.

On Tuesday’s hearing of the House committee on basic education and culture, panel chairperson and Pasig Rep. Roman Romulo noted that based on studies cited by the Department of Education (DepEd), the K-12 program has not achieved its primary objective of producing job-ready or college-ready learners a decade after its implementation.

The K-12 program started in 2013.
