MANILA, Philippines — Television sets have been banned in police stations in Metro Manila to ensure that police officers give their full attention to the public seeking their assistance.

Maj. Gen. Edgar Alan Okubo, chief of the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO), also ordered police personnel to refrain from using their cell phones for long periods of time either for social media or text to avoid being distracted while working.

To set an example, first to go were the TV sets at the lobby of the administrative building of the NCRPO inside Camp Bagong Diwa in Taguig City, Okubo said on Friday.

The new policy will be enforced in NCRPO’s 45 police stations in Metro Manila.

Violators will be charged with simple misconduct, a light administrative offense punishable with the withholding of privileges, restrictive custody, or suspension or forfeiture of salary of 30 days at most.
