Pagasa: LPA enters PAR; may become tropical cyclone within 24-48 hours

The low pressure area (LPA) off Eastern Visayas entered the Philippine area of responsibility on Monday afternoon, state meteorologists said.

MANILA, Philippines — The low pressure area (LPA) off Eastern Visayas entered the Philippine area of responsibility on Monday afternoon, state meteorologists said.

Aldczar Aurelio, weather specialist of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa), said the LPA entered at around 3 p.m.

Pagasa update said as of 3 p.m., the LPA is located 1,000 kilometers east of Eastern Visayas, according to Aurelio.

Aurelio said there is a chance that the LPA will become a tropical cyclone as it moves toward Northern Luzon.

“This low pressure area has a possibility of becoming a tropical cyclone within 24 to 48 hours,” Aurelio said in a public weather forecast.

Once it becomes a tropical cyclone, it will be called “Chedeng.”

It is the third tropical cyclone this year and the second this month.
