No damage to infra, casualties recorded after Batangas hit by 6.2 quake
LUCENA CITY — No major damage to infrastructure or casualties were reported in Calatagan town in Batangas province despite a magnitude 6.2 earthquake that struck Thursday morning, June 15, police said.
“As of this moment, we have yet to receive reports of major damage in the locality,” Police Major Emil Mendoza, Calatagan police chief, said in a phone interview at 10:56 a.m.
Mendoza said local police officers had been dispatched to help and provide assistance to tremor victims.
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported a magnitude 6.2 earthquake located 4 km southwest of Calatagan at 10:19 a.m.
The tremor was recorded at intensity IV in Quezon City and also felt in various parts of the Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Quezon) region.
Aftershocks are expected, according to Phivolcs.
On July 24, 2021, the town was also jolted by a 6.6 earthquake. It was followed by a 5.7 quake on Aug. 13; a 5.2 tremor on October 8; and another 5.3 tremor on Dec. 13 the same year.
