All the public elementary and secondary schools in Mandaue City were able to allocate funds from the proceeds of last Sunday鈥檚 fun run for the purchase of school supplies for the indigent students.
Mandaue City Schools Division Superintendent Dr. Virginia Zapanta said the first ever fun run initiated by the city鈥檚 education officials in honor of the 150th birthday Dr. Jose Rizal was successful as it received the participation of the 26 public elementary schools and 20 public secondary schools.
Four private schools namely St. Joseph Academy, Mega Elementary School, Ibali Center for Academy and University of the Visayas-Mandaue Academy also participated in the fun run featuring 1-K and 2-K categories.
From the P150 cost of the singlet that every school collected from participating students and teachers, P10 went to the fund for the purchase of school supplies.
Dr. Geronima Acot, coordinator of the activity, said some city officials also donated cash and school supplies.
鈥淭his is our way of promoting the advocacy for education and helping the Filipinos gain access to education,鈥 Acot said.
Acot said every school in Mandaue is now in the process of identifying the recipients of school supplies.
The activity also highlighted a 鈥淩un for Education, Save All the Generations鈥 slogan contest won by St. Joseph Academy, followed by Paknaan Elementary School and Labogon National High School.
Other awardees during the program included the city鈥檚 second district as biggest delegation, north district as most colorful and west district as lively delegation.
