Energy game-changer: Bongbong Marcos unveils Agusan del Norte hydro plant

MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. on Wednesday led the inauguration of a 24.9-Megawatt Lake Mainit Hydroelectric Power Plant in Agusan del Norte.

He called the project a step towards regional energy security, achieved through the joint efforts of Markham Resources and J-POWER Group from the Philippines and Japan.

“The development of this hydropower site is a defining step towards our goal of securing much-needed power for the people of Agusan del Norte and its neighboring areas by taking advantage of its water resources,” the Chief Executive said in his keynote address.

“The Lake Mainit hydroelectric run-of-river power project offers several benefits and is expected to sustainably serve around 45,000 households,” he noted.

The new hydroelectric plant will provide 100,871 megawatts of clean and affordable energy.

Marcos also said the new power plant is expected to impact the environment positively.

“The project is expected to help reduce carbon footprint and improve air quality as hydroelectric power produces very low or zero carbon emissions during electricity generation,” said the President.

Marcos also urged the local government unit of Agusan del Norte “to ensure the efficiency, safety, and productivity of this very important hydropower plant.”
