Davao de Oro town councilor shot dead
DAVAO CITY, Davao del Sur, Philippines — Councilor Jorlan Bon Sacay of Maco town in Davao De Oro was shot dead by by unidentified attackers on Tuesday night, police on Wednesday said.
The 24-year-old Sacay was also the president of the Sangguniang Kabataan Municipal Federation of Maco.
He had just come from a meeting and was getting off his sports utility vehicle outside his house at Purok La Suerte, Barangay Binuangan when he was attacked around 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, according to Lt. Col. Emerson Pugong, chief of the Maco Municipal Police Station.
The assailants fled on a motorcycle.
Sacay, who died of gunshot wounds in the head, was a law student and an ex-officio member of Maco’s municipal legislative council.
The Maco Municipal Council condemned the killing.
“(The Municipal Council) of Maco is in deep sorrow and pain for the death of one of our most hardworking public servants. SB Member Jorlan Bon Sacay died a horrible death. Please join us in praying for his soul and seeking justice for his death,” a statement from the office read.
Sacay was killed barely three months before the barangay and SK elections in October.
