MANILA, Philippines — The low pressure area (LPA) off Mindanao, once it develops into a tropical cyclone, may traverse or make landfall in Luzon, but the state weather bureau on Thursday said “there is still high uncertainty” regarding its definite track.

Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) weather specialist Patrick Del Mundo, in a public forecast, laid out the possible track scenarios for the LPA being monitored.

(There is still high uncertainty regarding the LPA’s future track. But in the month of July, tropical cyclones or weather disturbances that enter PAR usually make landfall in Northern or Central Luzon and it also has the chance to recurve towards the Japan area before it hits the country’s landmass.)

The LPA was last seen 715 kilometers east of Surigao City, Surigao del Norte. According to Del Mundo, it may develop into Tropical Depression Egay within 24 to 48 hours.

Meanwhile, this LPA will continue to dump rain and cause cloudy skies in Visayas, Romblon, Sorsogon, Masbate, Zamboanga del Norte, Misamis Provinces, Camiguin, Agusan del Norte, Surigao del Norte, and Dinagat Islands on Thursday.

Residents of these areas were advised to be alert against possible flash floods and landslides during moderate to at times heavy rains.
