Marcos calls NICA, NSC the ‘silent guardians who protect us’

MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. described the National Security Council (NSC) and the National Intelligence Coordinating Agency (NICA) as “silent guardians” who protect the country.

In his speech during the joint anniversary of NSC and NICA on Thursday, Marcos thanked the two agencies for their contributions to national security.

“We know that you are the silent guardians who protect us against all manner of national threats, the steadfast vanguards who keep our enemies at bay, and the faithful watchers ensuring that we do not veer to disorder and to chaos,” Marcos said.

The President acknowledged the different concerns that the country still faces, including threats to its territories and sovereignty, from local communist insurgencies and cybersecurity.

Marcos told the two units that Filipinos depend on them.

“I know that you are not often credited nor celebrated enough due to the nature of your work and the sensitivity of the jobs that you hold,” the Chief Executive said.

“Such is the nature of the clandestine services,” he explained.

“But please know that your brilliant handiwork, courageous grit, and selfless sacrifice are well-recognized by those who know of the hard work that you have put in to keep our country safe,” he emphasized.

NSC is the advisory body for coordinating and integrating plans and policies that affect national security.

NICA is the coordinating agency on government activities about national intelligence.
