Typhoon – battered Abra under state of calamity

BAGUIO— The province of Abra was placed under a state of calamity on Friday after Typhoon Egay (international name Doksuri) whipped Northern Luzon early this week.

Members of the provincial board unanimously approved a resolution for the declaration, citing the severe damage caused by the typhoon.

The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office has so far reported three fatalities, while four individuals were injured and another one is missing.

Damage to agriculture and infrastructure in the province was pegged at P24.6 million, so far.

The typhoon also displaced 41,627 families and forced the closure of 47 road sections in the province.
