2 riders dead, 1 hurt in motorcycle-bus collision in Quezon

LUCENA CITY — Two motorcycle riders died and another one was injured after their vehicle collided with a passenger bus in Atimonan town in Quezon province early Saturday, July 29.

Quezon police in a report said the motorcycle driver identified as Rafael Sta. Rosa, 23, with back-riders, Jehron Sayson, 13, and Vincent Delos Santos, 14, were negotiating a curve section of the Maharlika Highway in Barangay Tagbakin when their vehicle collided with an on-coming Bicol-bound Yutong passenger bus driven by Ramon Contreras.

Sta. Rosa and Sayson both died on the spot due to grave injuries. De Los Santos was taken to Doña Marta Memorial District Hospital for treatment.

Police said the motorcycle occupied the opposite lane of the highway which led to the collision.

The police said they found no driver’s license from Sta. Rosa and all motorcycle riders were not wearing crash helmets for head protection.

Wearing crash helmets for riders of two-wheeled motorized vehicles is required under the Motorcycle Helmet Act of 2009.

Contreras was taken into custody and would be charged with corresponding criminal charges.
