NDRRMC says reported deaths due to Typhoon Egay rise to 29 but only 2 are validated

MANILA, Philippines — The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said Friday that it received two more death reports due to Typhoon Egay (international name: Doksuri).

The agency’s update brought the number of reported typhoon deaths to 29, although the NDRRMC said it could only validate two fatalities so far.

The NDRRMC’s latest record also showed it received reports of 165 people injured and 11 people missing in the wake of the combined effects of Egay, Typhoon Falcon (international name: Khanun), and the typhoon-boosted southwest monsoon, locally known as habagat.

Egay flattened houses, uprooted crops, and flooded villages when it pummeled various provinces in Luzon and the Visayas.

The two typhoons and southwest monsoon also displaced 3,028,040 people, with 287,057 still sheltered in 648 evacuation centers.

The NDRRMC further said Friday that the three weather disturbances left more than P1.9 billion in agricultural losses and damage to structures, amounting to P3.63 billion.
