MANILA, Philippines — The Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) has entered into an agreement with the government of Iloilo and electricity corporation MORE Power to promote renewable energy in the city.

In a statement on Thursday, the ERC said that the tripartite agreement aims to create collaborative opportunities that encourage the use of renewable energy in Iloilo City, specifically, the use of Net-Metering and Distributed Energy Resources (DER).

DER refers to smaller power sources that could be aggregated to provide the power necessary to meet regular demand, while net-metering allows consumers to sell their excess power to the distribution grid.

“With this partnership, we aim to promote green practices, aligning with the national government’s targets. In Iloilo, our efforts include solar panels at the national high school, city hall, dialysis centers, and eye care facilities,” Iloilo Mayor Jerry Treñas said in the same statement.

MORE Electric and Power corporation CEO and president Roel Castro, meanwhile, said that the agreement will give way to the creation of a one-stop where applicants may apply for such technologies.
