House commits to solving MUP pension issues before 2023 ends

The House of Representatives has committed to finding a “viable solution” to several issues surrounding the Military and Uniformed Personnel (MUP) Pension before this year ends, Ako Bicol Rep. Elizaldy Co said on Sunday.

MANILA, Philippines — The House of Representatives has committed to finding a “viable solution” to several issues surrounding the Military and Uniformed Personnel (MUP) Pension before this year ends, Ako Bicol Rep. Elizaldy Co said on Sunday.

Co, House appropriations committee chairman, assured this as he promised to back the swift passage of the current administration’s priority bills.

“As the chairman of the House committee on appropriations, it is my utmost duty to work in collaboration with Speaker Romualdez and our esteemed colleagues to ensure that the priority bills gain the momentum they deserve. These bills hold the key to our nation’s progress and prosperity,” he said.

Co said that the MUP Pension was among the 17 proposed priority measures of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s administration, which aims to bolster economic recovery and generate more jobs for Filipinos.

Of these priority measures, the lower chamber passed on third reading of seven of them. Four others are up for approval before the House takes a break in October.

Meanwhile, the remaining six priority bills, such as MUP Pension, Motor Vehicle User’s Charge, Revised Procurement Law, New Government Auditing Code, Rationalization of Mining Fiscal Regime, and National Water Act, are set for approval before December 31.

“These bills demonstrate our unwavering dedication: to enhance road infrastructure and safety, to provide better support for our valiant defenders, to promote transparency and efficiency in government projects, to ensure accountability and responsible use of public funds, to strike a balance between economic growth and environmental protection, and to safeguard our water resources for future generations,” Co said.
