Drunk Angkas rider drowns in Quezon

LUCENA CITY — A 23-year-old man drowned on Saturday in Mauban town in Quezon province.

In a belated report Monday, the Quezon police said Fernando Jose Bandalaria, an Angkas rider from Caloocan City, rented a cabin at a beach resort in Barangay Cagsiay 1.

At around 11 p.m., Bandalaria stepped out of the cabin and went straight to the sea to cool himself but did not return.

His companion, Jeffrey Pelesigas, looked for him and later found him lying unconscious on the shoreline in another part of the village.

Bandalaria was taken to Mauban District Hospital in the town proper but died on the way.

Citing information from Pelesigas, the report stated that “the victim was too drunk and didn’t know how to swim.”

The probers said no foul play was initially observed during the investigation.
