Confirmatory drug test of sacked Mandaluyong police chief shows positive result

MANILA, Philippines — The confirmatory drug examination conducted on the urine sample of relieved Mandaluyong City Police chief Col. Cesar Gerente yielded positive results again, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said on Friday.

According to PNP spokesperson Col. Jean Fajardo, the same urine specimen submitted by Gerente was subjected to a confirmatory test last week.

“As a matter of procedure po, kasi ‘yung initial test po na random, automatic po ‘yon na sinusubmit sa forensic roof for confirmatory test,” Fajardo told in a phone interview.

(As a matter of procedure, we also submit the sample used for the initial random test to the forensic roof for a confirmatory test.)

“The random drug test conducted last August 24 was subjected to a confirmatory test last August 26, and said the test also turned out positive,” she added.

Fajardo revealed that after the four surprise drug exams conducted by the National Capital Region Police Office officials, two non-commissioned officers of 950 personnel yielded positive results.

“Out of the 950 personnel who underwent random drug tests, three tested positive for drug use. One of which is Col Gerente; the two others are non-commissioned officers,” she said.

Following Gerente’s relief, reports said Col. Mary Grace Madayag replaced him as Mandaluyong City police chief last August 28.
