Inverted PH flag in Asean an honest mistake — DFA

JAKARTA, Indonesia — After President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau were photographed with an inverted Philippine flag, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) called it an honest mistake.

Trudeau and Marcos had a bilateral meeting at the 43rd Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean) Summit.

When photos of their meeting were released, the Philippine flag was seen displayed upside down, which signified that the Philippines was at war.

“It was an honest mistake that had nothing to do with our protocol officers,” said DFA Undersecretary Ma. Theresa Lazaro.

On a lighter note, Lazaro, said that” the battle of the socks continues.” The DFA official was referring to a previous meeting between Trudeau and Marcos in November  2022 where both were seen wearing colorful socks, with the latter calling it the “battle of the socks.”
