MANILA, Philippines — The driver involved in the recent road rage and gun-toting incident in Valenzuela City has been identified and is facing formal complaints for grave threats and alarm and scandal, the police said on Monday.Â
Valenzuela City police chief Col. Salvador Destura Jr., said criminal complaints of grave threats for violating RA 10591 (Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Law) and alarm and scandal for violating article 155 of the Revised Penal Code have been filed against Marlon de Jesus Malabute.Â
A video of Malabute confronting and pointing his gun at taxi driver Herminio Daez Ong Jr. went viral last September 6 after the two had an altercation in Barangay Punturin. Â
Authorities were able to track them down after scanning a series of CCTV footage within the area and capturing the vehicles’ license plates.
Destura said they found cab driver Ong 12 hours after the incident went viral, while Malabute, who appeared to be the third owner of the SUV, was tracked down in coordination with the Land Transportation Office. Â
After identifying the suspect, a verification showed that Malabute has a permit to own and possess firearms and is a licensed owner of a .9mm caliber pistol.
Destura said Malabute’s gun permit has since been revoked. He was ordered to surrender his firearm to the nearest police station, or another formal complaint would be filed against him.
