UPDATED MANILA, Philippines — A fire broke out at a tire factory in Barangay Lingunan, Valenzuela City, early Tuesday morning, authorities said.
The Bureau of Protection (BFP) in Valenzuela City said the blaze started at Leo Tire Manufacturing Corporation at 3:35 a.m. and quickly reached the third alarm in less than 20 minutes.
The fire reached its fourth alarm at 4:23 a.m. and was declared “under control” at 5:35 a.m.
The BFP told that due to the rubber materials in the factory, putting out the blaze was taking time.
“Ongoing pa po kasi ‘yung fire scene natin hanggang ngayon. Rubber po kasi ‘yung nasunog kaya hanggang ngayon, hindi pa po fire out.” Fire Officer 1 Joanne Satsatin said before noon on Tuesday.
(The fire is still ongoing. Rubber materials are on fire, so it’s not “fire out” yet.)
On Wednesday, the BFP-NCR said that the incident was declared a fireout at 2:18 p.m. on Tuesday.
It reported that 37 firetrucks from fire stations in Quezon City, Caloocan City, and Valenzuela City responded to the scene.
No injuries or casualties were recorded, while the damage brought by the fire amounted to P91,700,000.
The origin and cause of the fire, according to the BFP, remains under investigation.
