Less than a third of those who took the Philippine National Police Entrance and Promotional Examinations passed, the National Police Commission (Napolcom) said on Thursday.

Out of 37,859 examinees, only 11,363 succeeded—a 30 percent passing rate for the tests, which were held on June 17 and 18 in 30 testing centers nationwide.

Of the 27,908 who applied to become policemen, only 5,641 or 20.21 percent hurdled the test, one of the requirements for those seeking to join the PNP.

For the 5,722 policemen in the service who passed the promotions test, 60 applied for the ranks of lieutenant colonels and majors; 231 for captains and lieutenants; 3,099 for master sergeant, senior master sergeant, chief master sergeant and executive master sergeant; and 2,332 for corporals and staff sergeants.

As part of its internal cleansing program, the PNP earlier said it was looking to tighten its current “nameless, faceless” recruitment process to do away with the patronage system and also ensure that only honest and reliable individuals could enter the service.

The list of successful examinees will be posted at the Napolcom One-Stop Shop on the seventh floor of its central office at the Department of the Interior and Local Government-Napolcom Center in Quezon City. It can also be accessed on the Napolcom website at napolcom.gov.ph.
