Cops nab 'high-value' drug suspect, seize P2.7M 'shabu' in Lucena City

LUCENA CITY — Police arrested early Sunday a “high-value” target in the government’s drug war and seized some P2.7 million worth of “shabu” (crystal meth) following a buy-bust operation in this capital city of Quezon province.

In a report, Quezon police chief Colonel Ledon Monte said combined anti-illegal drugs operatives from provincial headquarters and city station arrested Khristian Joy Medina, 30, after he sold shabu worth P10,000 to a poseur buyer in Barangay Ibabang Iyam at 3:10 a.m. Sunday.

The operatives confiscated from the suspect two plastic sachets and two knot-tied plastic containing 135 grams of shabu with an estimated Dangerous Drugs Board value of P918,000.

The seized illegal substance is worth P2,754,000 in the street market at P20,400 per gram, the report also said.

The police are conducting further investigations to determine the source of the illegal drugs.

Police tagged the suspect, a neighborhood tinsmith, as a “high-value individual” in the drug trade.

The report stated that Medina was previously arrested on drug charges but did not say why and when he was freed.

The suspect has since been detained and is facing complaints for violating the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
