DOT marks 4 million int’l visitors, says P316 billion contributed to economy

MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Tourism (DOT) has recorded more than four million visitor arrivals since the beginning of the year until September 29.

According to tourism secretary Christina Frasco, these international arrivals have contributed over P316 billion to the national economy.

“I am very pleased to deliver the good news that today, we have managed to breach the four million mark in international arrivals into the Philippines. This has brought into our economy over P316 billion,” Frasco said at the opening of the Travel Sale Expo 2023 and Global Tourism Trade Fair.

The DOT noted that 91.58 percent of the arrivals were foreign visitors, while 8.42 percent were overseas Filipinos.

Meanwhile, based on the visitors’ country of residence, South Korea led the arrival rate at 26.12 percent, followed by the United States of America at 16.95 percent, and Japan at 5.53 percent, the DOT added.

Other countries that made the top ten percent of arrivals were China, Australia, Canada, Taiwan, the United Kingdom, Singapore, and Malaysia.
