PNP says 8 of 71 recorded violent incidents nationwide are poll-related

8 of 71 recorded violent incidents are poll-related, says PNP

MANILA, Philippines — Eight out of the 71 violent incidents recorded by the authorities are related to the upcoming 2023 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) on October 30, the Philippine National Police (PNP) reported on Monday.

PNP spokesperson and public information office chief Col. Jean Fajardo said the election-related incidents climbed from seven to eight as of October 9.

“As of 12 a.m. of October 9, yung ating recorded election-related incidents ay umabot na po ng 71 out of the 71 recorded incidents walo po dyan ay validated election-related incidents, 18 po ang suspected related incidents, at remaining na 45 validated ay non-election-related incidents,” Fajardo said in a press briefing.

(As of 12 a.m. of October 9, election-related incidents have reached 71. Of this figure, eight are validated, 18 are suspected, and 45 are non-election-related incidents.)

Broken down, the validated cases consist of four shooting incidents, two kidnappings, one grave threat, and one indiscriminate firing.

All of these poll-related incidents occurred in Regions 4A (Calabarzon), 2 (Cagayan Valley), 5 (Bicol Region), 10 (Northern Mindanao), and  Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao.

Meanwhile, Fajardo said the 18 suspected poll-related incidents remain under surveillance and investigation.
