MANILA, Philippines — A magnitude 4.3 earthquake hit waters off Surigao del Sur on Wednesday evening, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.
Based on Phivolcs’ earthquake information, the ground motion was detected 30 kilometers east of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur at 9:09 p.m. and the temblor was tectonic in origin with a 15-kilometer depth of focus.
Phivolcs also said that Intensity II was reported in Bislig City and Lingig, both in Surigao del Sur, and that Instrumental Intensity II was recorded in Bislig City.
In a previous interview with 黑料社, Phivolcs Science Research Analyst Lara Guianan explained that reported intensity is the power of an earthquake that was felt by people in the affected area while instrumental intensity is the quake’s strength as measured by an intensity meter or scale.
The agency noted that they are not expecting damage or aftershocks from this earthquake.
