MANILA, Philippines — Liberal Party president and First District of Albay Representative Edcel Lagman on Saturday condemned President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.’s administration for failing to include February 25 in the regular holidays in 2024.

On Friday, the Office of the President released the list of regular and non-working holidays for the coming year. However, it did not include February 25 – the Edsa People Power Revolution anniversary.

“The inordinate arrogance of the second Marcos administration in failing to celebrate February 25 as a regular public holiday is a continuing distortion of the verities about the evils and repression of the Marcos martial era,” Lagman said in a press release.

According to the lawmaker, the date commemorates the success of Filipinos in ousting the dictator Marcos Sr., Bongbong’s father, from the presidency.

“Ever since the Philippines has marked February 25 as a day of national celebration, irrespective of whether or not it falls on a Sunday,” he stressed, in response to the Palace’s reason that the anniversary was not included in the holidays as it falls on a Sunday.

“The more Marcos Jr. would sweep under the rug of historical perfidy the profligacy and oppression of his father’s dictatorship, the more unreachable reconciliation and justice will be,” Lagman concluded.
