Batch of colorectal cancer drug recalled

A batch of a US-made intravenous drug used to treat a certain type of colorectal cancer has been ordered recalled by a local distributor due to a vial seal defect that may cause adverse health reactions.

According to an Oct. 23 advisory issued by the Food and Drug Administration, panitumumab, branded as Vectibix (20mg/ml) concentrate, was voluntarily recalled by importer Zuellig Pharma Corp.

The recalled batch were under lot number 1153398 and carry an expiration date of Dec. 4, 2024. Made by California biotechnology firm Amgen, the cancer medication is meant for patients with metastatic colorectal cancer that spreads outside the colon and rectum. —KATHLEEN DE VILLA
