‘Libingan’ saw fewer visitors compared to last year — exec

An official of the Army Support Command of the Philippine Army on Wednesday said that the number of visitors at the Libingan ng mga Bayani on All Souls’ Day is lower compared to the same day last year.

As early as 6 a.m., cemetery visitors have already started coming at the Libingan ng mga Bayani in Taguig City.

MANILA, Philippines — An official of the Army Support Command of the Philippine Army on Wednesday said that the number of visitors at the Libingan ng mga Bayani on All Souls’ Day is lower compared to the same day last year.

According to the Armed Forces of the Philippines, there were 11,258 visitors recorded from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m.

“Compared last year as of this time, medyo mababa kasi nga nasakto ‘yung long weekend and the election,” Commanding Officer of Grave Services Unit Elenita Altamirano said in an interview with reporters.

“So during election siguro nag-uwian ‘yung ibang mga dumadalaw dito and that long weekend nahati ‘yung pagpunta ng tao dito. Siguro ‘yung iba nag decide na may long weekend naman pwede namang hindi ngayong November 1 pumunta,” she added.

During the election, maybe the people visiting here went home, and that long weekend divided the number of people going here. Maybe the others decided not to come this November 1, given that there is a long weekend.)

She also reiterated that the Libingan ng mga Bayani is a military facility and a national shrine, so overnight stays for visitors are strictly not allowed.

Regarding preparation for Undas 2023, Altamirano said that they only focused on the “enhancement” of things that were not considered on November 1 last year.

Among the maintenance works done were grass cutting, repair, and maintenance works.
