Crimes in last 10 months drop 8 percent compared to last year – PNP

PNP records 18 election-related violence as BSKE looms

MANILA, Philippines — The volume of index crime nationwide has dropped by eight percent from January to October this year compared to the same period in 2022.

The data come from Philippine National Police (PNP).

From the 34,908 cases recorded last year, the index crime volume decreased by 2,877 for the past ten months.

This translates to a total of 32,031 cases.

The figures were sourced from 17 police regional offices nationwide from January 1 to October 31 this year.

The information was released through PNP Crime Information Reporting and Analysis System.

Based on PNP’s definition, index crimes are murder, homicide, physical injury, and rape.

The offenses also include crimes against property such as robbery, theft, carnapping/carjacking, and cattle rustling.

‘Focus’ crimes such as murder, robbery, theft, rape, physical injury, and carnapping also lessened by 8 percent in 2023.

Compared to the previous year, ‘focus’ crimes went down by 2,838.

From 34,702 in 2022, the figure decreased to 31,864 this year.

Police operations against wanted persons yielded 63,486 arrests.

342 individuals voluntarily surrendered to police.

For cases of illegal possession of firearms, police apprehended 7,914 individuals.

It recovered 25,174 firearms.

About 15,191 firearms were turned over to the police by private persons for safekeeping.

Meanwhile, PNP’s campaign against illegal drugs led to the arrest of 48,454 individuals.
