Bongbong Marcos to seek food and energy security, economy in APEC meet

MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. aimed to achieve food and energy security as well as economic inclusion of the country’s micro, small, and medium enterprises or MSMEs during his third trip to the United States for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (Apec) Summit.

In his pre-departure speech at Villamor Airbase in Pasay City, Marcos said that he will focus on beneficial trade, investment, green job generation, human development, and poverty alleviation.

“We will be engaging with the leaders of economies of the Asia-Pacific region to agree on how we can achieve food and energy security, economic inclusion of our micro, small, and medium enterprises, women, indigenous people, and other segments whose economic potential remains to be unlocked through digitalization and innovation, and sustainable development and addressing the climate change crisis,” said Marcos.

Marcos said that he will meet with different business leaders and conduct roundtable discussions in the APEC sidelines.

He will also meet with private sector representatives from the APEC Business Advisory Council

The President also said he will serve as a keynote speaker at the APEC Chief Executive Officers (CEO) Summit.

“At the APEC CEO Summit, which is the annual gathering of top CEOs from across the APEC region, I have been invited to deliver keynote remarks on ‘intentional equity in sustainability’ to share the Philippine experience in ensuring inclusivity on our path to greening the economy,” said Marcos.

In attendance at the departure ceremony were his cabinet secretaries, as well as Vice President Sara Duterte.

Marcos is scheduled to fly back to Manila on November 20.
