MANILA, Philippines — Cyber defense will be a “common fixture” in the future military exercises of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP).
Col. Michael Logico, designated spokesperson of this year’s Ajex Dagitpa or AFP’s Joint Exercise Dagat-Langit-Lupa (land, air, and sea) said this during the drills’ closing ceremony in Camp Aguinaldo in Quezon City on Friday.

“We are actually building our own cybersecurity capabilities, ever since in the previous Balikatan exercises and also the Ajex exercises,” Logico said in a chance interview.
“Now, cyber defense exercises are going to be a common fixture in joint exercises like on this scale,” he added.
Logico noted the importance of cyber security in military operations.

“So when we talk about physical domains, we are talking about the ground, maritime domains, but what is not often talked about is [the] non-physical domains like cyber domains [and] the information subsystems,” he said.
“All of those nonphysical domains will have effects on physical domains as well,” he added.
One of AFP chief-of-staff General Romeo Brawner Jr.’s priorities is the modernization of cyber warfare, proposing the creation of a “cyber command.”
