MANILA, Philippines — The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said that weather systems that brought rains and triggered floodings in the country have affected 721,627 individuals as of November 23.

In a situational report released at 8 a.m. on Thursday, the NDRRMC also said it received information about the death of an individual from inclement weather. But the information is still up for validation, it noted.

According to the agency, the total number of individuals affected by the impacts of the shear line and low-pressure area (LPA) belongs to 180,788 families residing in 904 barangays nationwide.

Of the sum, 80,358 individuals were displaced, with 39,904 taking shelter elsewhere or outside evacuation centers and 40,454 staying inside 170 evacuation centers across the country.

The NDRRMC said the Department of Social Welfare and Development has distributed P29,202,982 worth of assistance to the affected people.

Last November 14, the NDRRMC said the shear line brought significant amounts of rain over Oriental Mindoro, Quezon, Bicol Region, and Eastern Visayas while an LPA then-located 935 km east of northeastern Mindanao affected Eastern Visayas and Caraga.

Although the LPA dissipated on November 19, the shear line caused continuous rainfall over portions of the Bicol Region and Western and Eastern Visayas.
