LTO-NCR apprehends 724 motorists for various offenses in 9 days

There were 724 motorists apprehended for violating various traffic laws in recent operations conducted from November 8 to 17, the Land Transportation Office-National Capital Region (LTO-NCR) reported on Sunday.

MANILA, Philippines – There were 724 motorists apprehended for violating different traffic laws in recent operations conducted from November 8 to 17, the Land Transportation Office-National Capital Region (LTO-NCR) reported on Sunday.

LTO Regional Director Roque I. Verzosa III mentioned that the motorists were apprehended for various violations, including breaking Republic Act 4136 (Land Transportation and Traffic Code), Republic Act 8750 (requiring adults to wear seat belts), Presidential Decree 96 (prohibiting the use of sirens, blinkers, horns, and devices to evade traffic), as well as driving colorum vehicles and other related laws.

LTO-NCR said that it had apprehended 212 motorists at Malaria Caloocan and Commonwealth Avenue in Quezon City on November 17.

Among the apprehended motorists, 68 were found using unregistered vehicles, 144 faced violations for other offenses, and four vehicles were impounded.

During this operation, one taxi driver initially attempted to escape but was later caught for using a counterfeit license while another taxi driver was apprehended after a prolonged pursuit, Verzosa highlighted in the same report.

On November 16, LTO-NCR carried out an operation along the north and southbound lanes of Quezon Avenue, which led to the apprehension of 67 motorists.

Previously, on November 15, the agency apprehended a total of 79 motorists in an operation conducted at 10th Avenue, Caloocan South, and Monumento EDSA.

Meanwhile, in a string of operations that lasted from November 8 to 13, a total of 366 motorists were apprehended, LTO-NCR reported.

Of the 724 violators, 266 of them were found to have been using unregistered vehicles, 132 were not wearing seat belts, six were colorum or public utility vehicles which have been operating without a franchise, and two were in violation of Presidential Decree 96.

“Five of the private vehicles flagged down were operating as for hire (rented, colorum), and another jeepney driver was apprehended for violations including defective parts and accessories, absence of seat belt signage, and absence of tariff. The said vehicle was subsequently impounded,” Verzosa reported.
