MANILA, Philippines — The Supreme Court (SC) is planning to create a manual for treating cases of women in conflict with the law as part of efforts to promote gender equality in the judiciary, Associate Justice Maria Filomena Singh has revealed.

At the World Bank in Washington D.C., Singh also disclosed the Philippine judiciary’s initiatives toward diversity and gender inclusivity, such as the adoption of gender-fair language and courtroom etiquette, gender sensitivity workshops, as well as the commission of a study on gender representation in the judicature.

Singh was at the WB headquarters for its Annual Flagship Conference’s Law, Justice, and Development Week held November 13 to 15.

In the forum, the SC magistrate likewise showed the first Green Justice Zone in Puerto Princesa City, Palawan launched on November 10. Some of the proposed projects of the Justice Sector Coordinating Council under the Puerto Princesa Green Justice Zone include a manual for enforcing environmental laws and monitoring environmental offenses.

The WB’s Law, Justice, and Development Week invites legal experts worldwide to discuss the best methods in the practice and enforcement of law for collaboration and further developments.
