Former Sen. Leila de Lima, newly released on bail, was designated as the spokesperson for the Liberal Party (LP) on Monday, according to the party鈥檚 president Albay Rep. Edcel Lagman.

In a statement on Tuesday, De Lima said she was 鈥渉onored and grateful鈥 to be the party鈥檚 spokesperson. She said she hopes to convey the party鈥檚 鈥渕essage of reforms and advocacy on good governance, social justice and civil liberties.鈥

The opposition party is currently led by former Sen. Francis Pangilinan as chair, after former Vice President Leni Robredo stepped down on June 30, 2022, to focus on her Angat Buhay foundation.

According to Lagman, De Lima had been a longstanding member of the LP and was also previously appointed as the party鈥檚 vice president for policy, platform and advocacy.

Lagman said, however, that the former senator has not revealed any future political plans pending thorough consultation with allies and kin, in a statement posted on his Facebook page.

De Lima earlier said that she had yet to give any serious thought to her future in politics.

鈥淥n my part, it鈥檚 not on my mindset 鈥 whether it鈥檚 2025 or any other subsequent elections because I have yet to determine whether I鈥檒l be going back to public service,鈥 she said, speaking as a guest on the program 鈥淚NQside Look鈥 last month. INQ
