DFA working on repatriation of remains of 2 Filipinos executed in China

MANILA, Philippines – The cremated remains of two Filipinos recently executed in China for drug-related offenses may be flown back to the Philippines by the end of the week, Foreign Affairs Spokesperson Teresita Daza said on Wednesday. 

“The Philippine Consulate General in Guangzhou is working on the repatriation of cremains of the two Filipino nationals. It hopes to bring their cremains [back to the Philippines] by the end of the week,” Daza told reporters in a text message.

In early December, the Department of Foreign Affairs announced that two Filipinos were executed in China over drug trafficking offenses.

The execution, according to the DFA, was carried out on November 24. However, it withheld the identities of the two individuals out of respect for their privacy. 

Both of the executed Filipinos were arrested in 2013 and convicted in 2016.
