MANILA, Philippines — The Shrine of Our Lady of Piat in Cagayan is marking its 400th anniversary.

For this occasion, Catholic Bishop Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) on Wednesday said Pope Francis granted plenary indulgences on the jubilee of the shrine.

Plenary indulgences mean the religious belief in the removal of punishments after a person has committed sins.

The grant of indulgences were announced through a decree released by the Apostolic Penitentiary last December 5.

Piat’s jubilee, or its special anniversary, will run from December 26, 2023 to December 26, 2024.

The period is based on an order signed by Vatican’s major penitentiary Cardinal Maurus Piacenza and regent of the Apostolic Penitentiary Monsignor Christopher Nykielthe.

CBCP said grants plenary indulgence, subject to the usual conditions.

These conditions are sacramental confession, Eucharistic communion, and prayer for the intentions of the .
