COVID-19 cases rise from Dec. 12 to 18 compared to previous week

MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Health (DOH) said on Monday that 2,725 new COVID-19 cases were recorded from December 12 to 18, a slight increase from the previous week’s 1,821 new cases.

According to the DOH, the average daily case rate for the said week is 50 percent higher at 389 than the 260 cases reported from December 5 to 11.

Out of the new cases, DOH said that 16 of them are critical or severe.

Sixteen patients passed away, 13 of whom died from December 5 to 18.

Furthermore, DOH said that there were 211 critical or severe patients admitted to hospitals on December 17.

Also, out of the 1,101 intensive care unit (ICU) beds allotted for COVID-19 patients, 142, or 12.9 percent, are occupied.

On the other hand, 1,841, or 18.3 percent, of 10,045 non-ICU beds are is use.

DOH noted that 78 million individuals, or 100.44 percent of the target population, are already vaccinated against COVID-19.

Twenty-three million Filipinos have also received their booster shots.

Moreover, 7.1 million senior citizens, or 82.16 percent of the target A2 population, were inoculated against the virus.
