MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine delegation to Vienna, Austria, has continued the government’s campaign to get a nonpermanent seat at the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), promising active participation in peacebuilding.

The Philippine Permanent Mission to the United Nations and Other International Organizations in Vienna presented the Philippine candidature at the Park Hyatt Vienna, according to the Department of Foreign Affairs. Philippine Ambassador and Permanent Representative Evangelina Bernas.

The mission presented the government’s three main commitments should the Philippines win enough votes to clinch a nonpermanent seat. The commitments were “partner, pathfinder and peacemaker.”

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. first announced his bid for a UNSC seat in September last year.

The Philippines was previously elected as a nonpermanent member of the UNSC from 2004 to 2005. It was also a member from 1980 to 1981 and in 1963. Elections for the UNSC 2027-2028 term will take place in June 2026 in New York.
