Manila, Philippines 鈥 Mayor Francis Zamora, through the City Anti-Drug Abuse Council, distributed livelihood packages to 420 persons who use drugs (PWUDs) at the San Juan City Hall Atrium.

The beneficiaries were mix of currently enrolled and graduates of San Juan City鈥檚 rehabilitation program. They have shown commitment to change and have cooperated well in the program.

鈥淎ng programang ito ay ginawa natin sapagkat gusto ko pong magkaroon kayo ng maayos na kabuhayan. Gusto ko po na pagkatapos ng inyong pinagdaanan at naranasan, bumalik po kayo nang maayos sa lipunan na nakakatulong sa inyong mga pamilya, nakakatulong sa inyong mga mahal sa buhay,鈥 said Mayor Zamora during the distribution on Monday.

鈥淧ara sa akin, ang pinakamagandang paraan ay bigyan kayo ng tulong at suporta upang magkaroon ng kaunting pera,鈥 he added.

(This program was made because I want you to have a proper livelihood. I want that after all that you鈥檝e been through, you鈥檇 get back on your feet able to help your families and that people that you care about.)

(For me, the best way to help you is to provide aid and support in earning money.)

The PWUDs received 1 sack of 50 kilograms of rice, hygiene kits, 3 dozens of eggs, 3 bags of groceries containing canned goods, coffee, milk, noodles, biscuits, cup cakes, cooking oil, and condiments.

This was part of San Juan鈥檚 effort to maintain its having 100% of its barangays drug cleared as they apply by next year to PDEA to be declared as a drug free city.

Puregold also set up their Aling Puring Booth in the area to provide membership cards to all interested recipients.
