12 arrested for illegal possession, sale of prohibited firecrackers

The Philippine National Police (PNP) said on Friday that it has arrested 12 individuals for keeping, using, and selling prohibited firecrackers two days before New Year’s Eve.

MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine National Police (PNP) said on Friday that it has arrested 12 individuals for keeping, using, and selling prohibited firecrackers two days before New Year’s Eve.

Based on PNP’s December 29 data, authorities have apprehended 12 violators from the 36 incidents it has monitored.

Also on Friday, the Department of Health (DOH) recorded eight new cases of fireworks-related injuries (FWRI), bringing the total number of injured to 96.

DOH said the eight consisted of victims ranging from five to 49 years old. Seven of them are males and a woman from Central Luzon who experienced hearing loss after passive exposure to kwitis or skyrocket, it added.

According to the PNP, it confiscated 28,754 firecrackers, amounting to P244,130. Of this figure, 19 were piccolo, 187 were poppop, 9,762 five stars, 4,661 pla-pla, 101 giant bawang, 24 judas belt, 87 mother rockets, 2,556 kwiton, 7,005 sawa, 370 roman candles, 78 kingkong, and 3,874 others.
