Police nab Quezon city security guard for indiscriminate firing

MANILA, Philippines — An allegedly drunk 44-year-old security guard, who was caught indiscriminately firing his gun, was arrested in Quezon city on New Year’s Day, according to police.

In a report on Tuesday, Quezon City Police District (QCPD) said suspect Boy Bagua was apprehended by cops along Baesa Road, Barangay Baesa, Quezon city, after receiving information about the offense.

Citing responders’ accounts, police said Bagua had a gun tucked into his waist and he “was evidently under the influence of alcohol.”

The gun, with one fired cartridge case and four live rounds of ammunition, was confiscated from him.

Police said Bagua will be charged with violating Republic Act (RA) 11926 or Indiscriminate Discharge of Firearms, and RA 10591 or the Comprehensive Firearms and Regulation Act.

Violation of these laws are punishable by eight to ten years of imprisonment, as stated under the Revised Penal Code.

Moreover, security personnel who commit offenses might also face revocation or cancellation of their ‘license to exercise security profession’ (LESP) “without prejudice to filing a criminal case against them,” according to Philippine National Police (PNP).
