MRT 3 improves patronage, ride quality

The Metro Rail Transit Line-3 (MRT-3) management on Friday announced that it will offer free rides to civil servants from Sept. 18 to 20.

MANILA, Philippines — Average daily ridership at the Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT 3) rose 30 percent last year, servicing over 129 million passengers.

On Wednesday, the (DOTr) reported that its total ridership last year increased from 98.33 million in 2022 to 129.03 million last year.

Daily ridership also climbed from 273,141 in 2022 to 357,198 last year. Over 220,000 passengers also benefited from free rides last year.

The DOTr said the MRT 3 rehabilitation project sped up the speed of the railway from 30 kilometers per hour (kph) to 60 kph.

The number of operational trains also increased from just 13 to 23. Waiting time between trains has been cut to 3.5 minutes from 10 minutes. The daily passenger capacity also doubled to 600,000.
