MPD monitors number of Quiapo churchgoers ahead of Traslacion

MANILA, Philippines — The crowd estimate monitored in Quiapo Church amid its ongoing Sunday masses is approximately 18,000 as of 3 p.m., according to the Manila Police District (MPD).

Based on police data, this brings the total number of people who arrived at the church on this day to reach 176,500.

Over a day before the Traslacion 2024, or the Feast of the Black Nazarene, MPD noted that no untoward incidents were monitored within the area, and earlier masses ended peacefully.

Earlier, the National Capital Region Police Office said that it was ready for the observance of the activity on Tuesday and had already commenced a send-off ceremony for its personnel at the Quirino Grandstand in Manila.

For the walk of faith, NCRPO said it will dispatch a total of 15,276 policemen in anticipation of over 2.3 million devotees during the peak of the activity.

Authorities will likewise implement a “no-fly zone and no drone zone” within the vicinity of Quirino Grandstand and Quiapo Church as well as routes of the procession from January 7 to 10, while a “no sail zone” at the vicinity waters of South Harbor, Manila (near Quirino Grandstand) and Pasig River from 12 a.m. of January 6 to 12 a.m. of January 10.
