PNP monitoring reported presence of ICC reps in PH

MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine National Police (PNP) is monitoring the reported presence of International Criminal Court (ICC) representatives in the country, according to its chief, Gen. Benjamin Acorda Jr.

“Well, we cannot confirm or deny that, but the PNP is monitoring whatever their efforts or their presence, but as of now, we are keeping the report to ourselves,” the Acorda said in a press conference on Monday.

“We are doing our best to make sure that our portion being one of the pillars of the justice system, we are performing our job, and we are ensuring and seeing into it that in collaboration with other agencies in prosecution and courts.”

Last Nov. 24, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. said that the government was considering resuming its membership to the ICC following discussions in the House of Representatives regarding the possibility of allowing its investigators to probe the drug war under the term of his predecessor, Rodrigo Duterte.
