China summons PH ambassador after Marcos congratulates Taiwan鈥檚 Lai

BEIJING 鈥 China on Tuesday summoned the ambassador from the Philippines and warned the country 鈥渘ot to play with fire鈥 after its President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Monday congratulated Taiwan鈥檚 president-elect Lai Ching-te on his election victory.

鈥淧resident Marcos gravely violated the one China principle, went against political commitments to China, and interfered in China鈥檚 internal affairs,鈥 a Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson said at a regular press conference on Tuesday.

The Philippines鈥 foreign ministry on Tuesday reaffirmed the country鈥檚 after Marcos鈥 comment.
